Found in western Sumatra at elevations around 1800 meters as a small to medium sized cool growing epiphyte with a short rhizome giving rise to close set, oblong, almost cylindrical pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, narrowly lanceolate, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms on an erect, arising with the leaves, thin, peduncle to 5.2 to 6.8" [13 to 17 cm] long, rachis 10 to 20 flowered inflorescence.
J J Smith stated that this species was close to D kingii but D glossorhynchum has smaller flowers and there are no stelid present as well as the lip side lobes are somewhat acute and those of mD kingii are obtuse.
