Found in Sumatra in montane forests at elevations around 1700 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphyte with close set, narrowing towards the apex pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, broadly elliptic-lanceolate, obtuse, basally acutely narrowing into the petiolate base leaf that blooms on an erect, 4.8 to 6.8" [12 to 1`7 cm] long, rachis, quadrangular, 5 to 7" [12.5 to 17.5 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with light green flowers

J J Smith stated that this species was close to D gracile but D papillosum has broader leaves, larger flowrs adn the column is different.
