Found in the Philippines on mossy tree trunks and branchesat elevations around 1300 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphyte with a short rhizome giving rise to slender, clustered, slightly tapering pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, fully terete basally, stiff, not arching, becoming v shaped above, acute leaf that blooms on an erect then arching to pendulous, shorter than the leaf, peduncle hair-like, separating from the channel near the center of the leaf, opposing, [to 8" [20 cm] long overall, to 20 flowered inflorescence

Similar to D tenellum but D tiongianum differs in the erect, stiff, non-arching, wider leaves and the hair-like peduncle which separates from the v shaped leaf channel a mid leaf, and the considerably smaller flowers
