Common Name The Cross-Wise Dendrochilum [refers to the transversely oblong labellum]

Flower Size .36 to .4" [.9 to 1 cm]

Found in Sabah Borneo on Mt Kinabalu in upper montane forests at elevations around 2100 to 3000 meters as a miniature to small sized, cold growing epiphyte with a short, creeping, branching rhizome giving rise to caespitose, narrowly cylindric, minutely rugulose, green, suffused with red to entirely red pseudobulbs enveloped basally by 3 to 4, ovate-elliptic, acute, pale brown, speckeld, darker brown cataphyls and carrying linear-lanceolate to linear-oblanceolate, abruptly narrowing below the acute, shortly cuspidate apex, thin textured, 5 main nerved, mid nerve prominent, on the abaxial surface, deep olive green, narrowing below into the sulcate petiolate base leaf that blooms in the later spring on an erect to curving, peduncle terete, very slender, 3.6 to 8" [9 to 20 cm] long, provided with 1 to 2, ovate-elliptic, acute, bracts, rachis quadranglar, 2.8 to 3.6" [7 to 9 cm] long, laxly to subdensely many flowered inflorescence with ovate, apiculate, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying flowers with the sepals and petals rose colored, the lip deep ochre with darker apex and margins, the column pinkish brown, the stelidia ochre tipped dark ochre-brown and the anther cream colored.
