Found in Sabah, Sarawak and Kalimantan Borneo in peat swamp and hill forests at elevations of sea level to 300 meters as a mini-miniature to miniature sized, hot growing epiphyte with erect to spreading, clustered, usually 3 to 5 noded, lower 2 to 3 nodes terete, very slender, brown sheathed in youth, upper internode stems half to more than half as long as the whole stem, gradually broadening from a slender base, fusiform, fleshy, irregularily sulcate, 4 to 6 angled, olive green stem carrying 2, apical, elliptic to oblong, minutely unequally obtusely to subacutely bilobed, margins slightly revolute, fleshy, coriaceous, spreading at a 45 degree angle to the stem, dark green, shortly cuneate base leaves that blooms about every 2 to 3 months year round from between the leaves, peduncle minute, sporadically, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with chaffy floral bracts and carrying fragrant short lived flowers.
Similar to D striatellum but this one differs in the stem with less internodes, and a lip lacking a median keel on the disc. D hymenanthum is also similar but it has 4 angled pseudobulbs and a lip with usually 2 small, lateral keels at the middle of the blade.
