Found in southern Vietnam in primary and secondary evergreen broad-leaved montane forest on granite without elevational data as a medium to large sized, clustering branch epiphyte with a short rhizome with clustered, yellowish, erect and arching, slender, not swelling, laterally compressed, unbranched, manynodal, leafy in basal half, becoming leafless (or with rudimentary leaves) in upper part, internodes slightly widening toward apex stems carrying sessile, rigid, leathery, laterally compressed, distichous, ascending, slightly overlapping or alternate, oblique narrowly triangular, acute, base dilated into sheaths as long as the leaf and embracing stem leaves that blooms in the later summer on a lateral, arising from nodes on leafless, apical half of stem, ; peduncle (.6 to 1.2" [1.5 to 3 mm] long. single flowered inflorescence with papyraceous, triangular, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.

"Our plant belongs to SECTION Aporum and superficially looks close to D. spatella Rchb.f., widely distributed in mainland southeast Asia and very common in Vietnam. Meanwhile, it distinctly differs in larger flower, .32 to .4" [8 to 10 mm] across vs. .24 to .28" [6 to 7 mm] across, sepals .272 to .308" [6.8 to 7.7 mm] long vs. .12 to .2" [3 to 5 mm] long, lip long clawed, narrowly oblong obdeltoid, .54 to .62" [13.5 to 15.5 mm] long vs. lip short-clawed, almost rhomboid, .16 to .2" [4 to 5 mm] long and also in a much longer column foot .36 to .44" [9 to 11 mm] long vs. .08 to .1" [2 to 2.5 mm] long. The described plant also well differs from all other species of its section hitherto recorded in Indochina. However, it shows somewhat resemblance with D. bilobulatum Seidenf. and D. terminale C.S.P. Parish et Rchb.f. and theoretically may be a natural hybrid of any of these species and D. spatella." Averyanov etal 2018
