Found in Ivory Coast, Ghana and Gabon in lowland shady wet forests and bush as a large to giant sized, hot growing epiphyte with elongate, pendant stems carrying many, 2 ranked, elliptic, basally twisted to all face in one plane, bilobed apically, round lobed leaves that blooms in the later spring on a pendant, arising from the base of the leaf bearing sheath, 3.2 to 5" [8 to 12.5 cm] long, 8 to 14 flowered inflorescence.
"In habit, leaves and inflorescences, the present species bears a remarkable resemblance to Rhipidoglossum bilobatum; in fact the two species are likely to be indistinguishable when not in flower. The flowers of D. sarco- rhynchoides, however, are more similar to those of Diaphananthe bidens in possess- ing a labellar tooth and a single viscidium." J B Hall 1974
