Common Name The Painted Dichaea

Found from the Leewards, Trinidad & Tobago, Windwards, French Guiana, Surinam, Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil in rainforests as a small sized, pendant, hot to warm growing epiphyte that is found at elevations of 0 to 1000 meters with unbranched to branching basally stems carrying close set, olive green, oblong lanceolate leaves held at a 90' angle to the stem by a clasping sheath and blooms in the summer through winter on an axillary, short single flowered inflorescence that appears at the upper leaf axils near the apex of the stem.
Distinguished by the dehiscent leaves, the glabrous ovary, the .6" [1.5 cm] wide flowers, the short but well developed infrastigmatic ligule, and the small ring-like callus at the base of the lip
