Common Name The Scoop-Shaped Dendrochilum

Found from Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, French Guiana, Surianam, Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil at elevations around 50 to 1800 meters in wet montane forests, as a small to medium sized, pendulous, caespitose, hot to cool growing epiphyte with a monopodial stem enveloped completely by imbricate leafless below and leaf-bearing sheaths above that carries alternating, distichous, narrowly lanceolate-ligulate, acuminate leaves that are conduplicate at the base into a short petiole and blooms in the spring on an axillary, 1 to 1.12" [2.5 t o2.8 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with a glabrous ovary and holding the flowers close to the stem and leaf.
