Found in Afghanistan, Taiwan, Assam, Bangladesh, eastern Himalayas, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo, Java, Malaysia, Philippines, Sumatra, Northwest Territory and Queensland Australia, Niue and Vanuatu at elevations of sea level to 700 meters on shady slopes and grassland borders and under bamboo thickets as a small sized, hot to warm growing mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with an underground horizontal, fleshy rhizome that gives rise to an erect, to 8" [20 cm] long, light brown, successively 1 to 2, many flowered inflorescence carrying wide open flowers occuring in the spring
