Found in Guantanamo and Holguin provinces of Cuba and Clarendon, Trelawny and St Andrews parishes of Jamaica in wet montane forests at elevations of 600 to 1100 meters as a large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with a woody, terete, reed-like stem carrying many, erect-spreading, rigid, broadly lanceolate, prominently veined, coriaceous, leaves that blooms in the winter and earlier spring on a terminal, erect, 8 to 16" [20 to 40 cm] long, paniculate, many branched, 3 to 30 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate-ovate, mucronate floral bracts.
