Found in Lesotho, Cape Province, Natal, Orange Free State and Transvaal South Africa in rock crevices and on ledges in partial sun at elevations of 1200 to 2700 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial orchid with flexuous, erect, rigid, linear, acute leaves grading into bracts that blooms in the late spring and early summer on an erect, terminal, to 14" [35 cm] long, laxly several flowered inflorescence
