Found in Mozambique, Swaziland, Transvaal, Natal, and Cape Province South Africa in damp grasslands or on riverbanks in full sun at elevations of 300 to 1500 meters as a small to medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with a rarely developing sterile shoot and a fertile shoot with cauline leaves that blooms in the spring and early summer on an erect, very densely 30 to 50 flowered inflorescence
