Found in Cape Province, Lesotho and Natal along streams in full sun at elevations of 1800 to 2400 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with a separate leafy shoot that blooms in the late spring and early summer on an erect, terminal, to 12" [30 cm] long, laxly 3 to 8 flowered inflorescence with fragrant flowers
