Found in Central African Republic, Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia in dense shade ofriverine and submontane forests mostly in leaf liter at elevations of 800 to 1600 meters as a mini-miniature to small sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with underground ellipsoid to globose tubers giving rise to 2 to 4, alternate, dark greeen with white venation above and purple below, ovate to lanceolate-ovate, cordate at base leaves that blooms in the spring and summer on a to 6" [to 15 cm] long, erect, 1 to 5 flowered inflorescence arising from a leaf-like bract.
