Common Name The Adorned Distylodon [refers to the 2 fang-like subulate teeth of the rostellum]

Found in southwestern Uganda in forests at elevations around 1000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm growing epiphyte with a short, flattened stem carrying 2 ranked, ovate to ellipitc-lanceolate, basally twisted so to be all in one plane, unequally and acutely bilobed apically leaves that blooms in the mid-spring on a slender, .88" [2.2 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with an ovate acute bract.

" The genus is closely related to Angraecopsis having the short stem and often small leaves characeriztic of many species of that genus. In Distylodon, however the petals are quitefree from the lateral sepals and all the tepals are similar in shape and size. The characeristic feeature from which the generic name is derived is the very striking rostellum. This is erect from the front edge of of the short, broad column. On removeal of the 2 viscidia the rostellum is bilobed, the 2 lobes standing up parellel to one another forming two narrow almopst subulate acute teeth or fangs. The long slender viscidia are attached along the whole length of the rostellum between the two lobes or arms. The distichous leaves are twisted so as to lie more or less in a single plane, forming a sort of fan, much as in many species of Aerangis . The genus clearly falls into the subtribe Aerangidinae."
