Found in in Ecuador in the Tulcan Region of Carchi Province at elevations around 1500 meters as a small to just medium sized, cool growing epiphyte with erect, coriaceous, carinate, elliptic to ovate, acute leaves that blooms in the in the late fall and early winter on an ascending-horizontal to descending, 6.8 to 10" [17 to 25 cm] long overall, rachis .8 to 2" [2 to 5 cm] long, successively single, 2 to more flowered inflorescence carrying flowers with a subpandurate lip, .28" x .2" [7mm x 5 mm], that has an orbicular epichile with 3 distinctive lamellae.
This species has some affinity with D. houtteana
