Common Name Roezl's Dracula [Bohemian Orchid Collector in South America 1800's]

Found in Antioquia department of Colombia in cloud forests at elevations around 1800 to 2350 meters as a small to just medium sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thinly coriaceous, carinate, elliptical, subplicate, acute, cuneate below into the conduplicate, indistinct, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring and fall on a stout, horizontal to descending, arising from low on the ramicaul, to 22" [to 55 cm] long, loose, successively single, several flowered, racemose inflorescence with a tubular, shorter than the pedicel floral bract.
"Similar to !Dracula chimaera , Dracula severa and Dracula wallisii in the large habit with plicate leaves. The sepals can be black to deep red to chocolate and the pubescence is very short and fine instead of long and coarse as in D wallisii. The lip is freely mobile and the suborbicular epipchile is shallowly concave, filled with multiple, branching, radiating veins ad it is lightly verrucose externally." Luer 1993
