Found on the north island of New Zealand in coastal forests near the sea as a medium sized, warm growing epiphyte with an open growth habit that forms sparse pieces with elongate stems carrying long, broad, deeply channeled, widest near the base, narrowing to an acute tip, green to yellowish-green leaves that blooms in the mid spring through summer on a pendent, to 4" [10 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence carrying citrus scented flowers
Earina mucronata and this species are very similar but differ in the plant habit, E mucronata is a clumping plant and E aestivalis has an open growth habit.
