Common Name Ollgaard's Elleanthus

Found in Loja province of Ecuador on heaths at elevations of 2600 to 2750 meters as a just small to just medium sized, cold growing caespitose terrestrial with an erect, simple leafy stem concealed basally by tubular sheaths and carrying ovate-lanceolate, narrowly acute, plicate, stiff leaves that blooms in the fall on a terminal, 2.2" [5.5 cm] long, conical, sparsely furfuraceous, densely many flowered inflorescence with glabrous, slightly longer than the flowers floral bracts and carrying yellow flowers.

"Similar to E maculatus in the stiff leaves, obliquely avate-lanceoalte lateral sepals, linear-oblong petals and similar size and shape of the calli of the lip. Also similar to E caveroi but all differing the most from E olgaardii in the flower color. E maculata and E caveroi have similar flower colors being purple and fuschia with the lip of E caveroi being white while the flowers of E olgaardii are yellow. The gymnostemmium of E olgaardii is shorter than in E maculatus and longer in E caveroi. Also there is a thickening below the stigma which is absent in E maculata and E caveroi has trianguklar wings below the stigma. the sepals are sparsely furfuraceous while in the other two they are glabrous."
