Common Name Ruiz's Elleanthus

Found in Napo and Pichincha provinces of Ecuador at elevations around 250 to 1200 meters as a medium to large sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial on steep embankments or epiphyte with cane-like, terete, rigid stems enveloped by striate, distichous leaf sheaths carrying narrowly ovate, strongly veined on both sides, elliptic-lanceolate, acuminate leaves taht blooms in the winter on a terminal, elongate, spicate, many flowered inflorescence with green floral bracts carrying brick red flowers
Distinguished by the unbranched stems, the cylindrical, elongate inflorescencewith ovate-lanceolate, concave, acute to subacuminate floral bracts and carrying brick red flowers.
