Found in Napo province of Ecuador at elevations around 1900 to 2100 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial on steep embankments or epiphyte with simple stems carrying a few, towards the apex, plicate, rather rigid, elliptic to lanceolate, long acuminate, sessile base leaves that blooms in the spring on a terminal, erect, .8" [2 cm] long, spicate, densely several flowered inflorescence with lanceolate-ovate, narrowly cuneate, obtuse, somewhat longer than the greenish-white, glabrous flowers.

"E. thomasii is similar to E. wercklei Schltr., from which it can be distinguished by the elliptic, acute dorsal sepal (vs ovate, acuminate), lateral sepals with oblanceolate, rounded petals dorsally keeled towards apex (vs obliquely ligulate, obtuse), shape of the lip as well as form of the basal calli.
