Found in Costa Rica, Panama and Boyaca and Cundinamarca departments of Colombia and Guyana on tree trunks at elevations around 2000 to 3550 meters as a large sized, cold growing epiphyte with erect, slender, delicate, subterete, partially concealed by leaf sheaths lower part of the stem leafless and carrying up to 9 lanceolate to narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, plicate, obliquely tridentate apically, cuneate narrowing below into the sessile base leaves leaves that blooms in the late winter and spring on a terminal, erect, 2" [5 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, abruptly long-acuminate, concave 5 times longer than the ovary floral bracts.
"This species along with E xanthocomus E aurantiaca and E longibracteatus all have apically, 3 lobed lips but E xanthocomos has in addition lacinate-dentate margins of the lip lateral lobes." Szlatchetko & Kolanowska 2023
