Common Name Bicalho's Encyclia

Flower Size .8" [2 cm]

Found in Bahia state of Brazil at elevations of 300 to 400 meters as a small sized, hot growing, caespitose epiphyte with obovoidto suborbicular, enveloped in youth by membraneous, evanescent sheaths pseudobulbs and carrying 2 to 3 apical, linear-lanceolate, cymbidiform, coriaceous, apiculate leaves that blooms in the spring on an erct, apical, peduncle 4.2" [10 .5 cm] long, single branched towards the base of the rachis, 2 flowered, warty, rachis 7.8" [19.5 cm] long, 8 flowered inflorescence with triangular, much shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.

Similar to Encyclia linearifolioides (Kraenzl.) Hoehne 1938 but the presence of auricles on the column eliminate this possibility. Similar to Encyclia patens Hook. 1830 but the length of the inflorescnce in relation to the leaves also separates it.
