Common Name Hamilton's Encyclia [Jamaican Orchid Nurseryman - Hamlyn Orchids - and all round good guy current]
Flower Size
Found in the ultramaphic nucleous of northeast Cuba from Sierra de Nipe in Holguin province to Baracoa in Guantanamo province as a medium sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with clustered, ovate pseudobulbs enveloped basally by imbricating, scarious sheaths and carrying 1 to 2, apical, erect, coriaceous, stiff, linear-lanceolate, acute leaves that blooms in the later spring on a terminal, erect, slender, distantly several sheathed, to 10.4" [26 cm] long, to 15 flowered inflorescence with ovate, obtuse, concave floral bracts.
"Very similar to Encyclia pyriformis but differs in the callus of the labellum. On Encyclia pyriformis the callus extends beyond the apex of the column and ends abruptly. In E. hamiltonii, the callus descends onto the disc of the labellum, becoming longitudinal ridges that are joined by a third ridge." Ruben P. Sauleda and Pablo Esperon 2013
