Found only in Durango and Sinaloa states of Mexico in pine-oak forests at elevations around 1800 to 2000 meters as a medium sized, cool growing epiphyte with elliptic, rugose pseudobulbs carrying 2, apical, narrowly lanceolate, acuminate leaves that flowers in the late spring and early summer on an apical, simple, densely verruculous, provided with 5 to 6 bracts, 19.2" [48 cm] long, 3 to 12 flowered infloresence.
Very similar to and often cited as a synonym of E adenocaula yet differs in its location, Durango and Sinaloa states of Mexico vs Jalisco, Michoacan, Guererro and Mexico in E adenocaula, having redder flowers and a prominent midvein on the lip as well as narrower lateral lobes in E kennedyi.
