Common Name The Butterfly Encyclia

Flower Size

Found from Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua at elevations of 30 to 1000 meters as a medium sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte, rarely terrestrial with close set, ovoid-conical to ellipsoid pseudobulbs enveloped by white, scarious sheaths and carrying 1 to 3, apcial, coriaceous, linear, acute, dark green, opaque leaves that blooms in the spring and summer on an arching, paniculate, to 32" 80 cm] long, to 10 flowered inflorescence with triangular, much shorter than the pedicellate ovary floral bracts. .

"This species is easily recognized by the narrrow leaves and light yellow, not showy flowers. It is distinguished from E . adenocarpa by the rounded, oblong-obovate lateral lobes, the length subequal to the middle lobe and The flabellate, lateral teeth of the spine exceed the length of the anther." Aguirre Olavarrieta 1987

CAUTION!!!! Many references put this species as a synonym of E adenocarpa and it may well be but I await better references. They do appear to be very close.
