Common Name The Sabana Encyclia [Archipelago of Sabana-Camagu¨ey]

Flower Size .8 to 1.2" [2 to 3 cm]

Found Villa Clara province in the keys of north central Cuba mostly in microphyllous evergreen forests and to a lesser extent on the coastal xeromorphic thickets at elevations of sea level to 20 meters as a small to medium sized, hot growing epiphyte with conic to ovoid pseudobulbs carrying 1 to rarely 3, conduplicate, linear-lanceolate, coriaceous, arched and sub twisted, acute to apiculate, smooth to minutely irregular margin leaves that blooms in the summer on a terminal, erect, racemose to paniculate, 2 to rarely 4 branched, peduncel with 2 to 15 deltoid adpressed bracts, the bases of the branches with amplexicaul, scarious bracts 12 to 60" [30 to 150 cm] long, overall, rachic, successsively 6 to 35 flowered inflorescence with cucullate-amplexicaul broadly ovate, obtuse, squmiform floral bracts.

"Similar to Encyclia phoenicea and E plicata, but differing from these by having a smaller labellum, with a length of less than three quarters of the labellum length of these species; labellum minutely verrucose, entirely white, with the lateral lobes always straight when extended, as opposed to distally arched in E. phoenicea and strongly arched in E. plicata."
