Common Name Widgren's Encyclia [Swedish Plant Collector in Brazil early 1800's]

Found in Minas Gerais, Brazil at elevations of 500 to 1000 meters as a medium sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with cylindrical, slightly flattened pseudobulbs carrying 2 apical leaves that blooms on a terminal, 2 to 4 3/4" [5 to 12 cm] long, racemose inflorescence with a few [6 to 8], non-resupinate flowers occuring at any time of the year. This species can be confused with E papilio but E widgrenii has reflexed petals and a flower that is twice the size of the former..
