Found in Grenada at elevations of 570 to 690 meters as a small sized, warm growing epiphyte with simple, cane-like, terete at base somewhat laterally compressed above, thin, straight, base covered by tubular, non-foliar, scarious sheaths. and carrying 2 to 3, aggregate towards the apex of the stem, alternate, distichous, articulate, sub-coriaceous; sheath tubular, minutely striated; blade elliptic, acute, margin entire leaves that blooms in the earlier spring and again in later summer on a terminal, without a spathe, peduncle .4 to .8" [1.0 to 2.0 cm] long, thin, ancipitose, apex provided with a bract .2" [5 mm] long, widely triangular, apex acute; rachis terete, thin, 1.4 to 1.8" [3.5 to 4.5 cm] long overall, apical, racemose, arching, successively several, 10 to 14 flowered inflorescence with shorter than the ovary, widely triangular, acute, embracing floral bracts and carrying resupinate, yellowish brown flowers fragrance not registered.
"Epidendrum grenadense belongs to the GROUP Arbusculum SUBGROUP Incomptum which is characterized by the successive lateral growths produced from the middle of the previous growth, few leaves aggregate towards the apex of the stems, a short apical inflorescence with fleshy greenish to violet-green to black flowers with short ovaries, the lip entire to 3-lobed, and the Proligerum Complex, which has the ovary inflated, forming a vesicle behind the perianth. The species is recognized by the elliptic leaves 1.6 to 2.24" x .6 to .8" [4.0 to 5.6 x 1.5 to 2.0 cm], floral segments obtuse, sepals .372 to .38 x .184 to .204" [9.3 to 9.5 x 4.6 to 5.1 mm], ovate-elliptic, petals .332 x .12" [8.3 x 3 mm], oblanceolate, and the lip .27 x .464" [7 x 11.6 mm], transversely elliptic, emarginate and minutely apiculate, the calli globose, prominent. Epidendrum jamaicense has narrowly elliptic leaves 1 to 4.4" x .4 to .64" [2.5 to 11 x 1.0 to 1.4 cm], floral segments acuminate, sepals .4 to .6" x .12 to .228" [10 to 15 x 3.0 to 5.7 mm], elliptic, lateral sepals falcate, petals .4 to .56" x .72 to .8" [10 to 14 x 1.8 to 2.0 mm], linear, and the lip .36 to .6" x .4 to .6" [9-15 x 10-15 mm], reniform with the apex not apiculate."
