Found in Bolivia at elevations of 200 to 300 meters as a hot growing epiphyte with a new stem arising from the lower 1/4 of the previous, somewhhat swollen, 5 internoded stem carrying 2, apical, ovate, obtuse, narrowing below in to the sessile base leaves that blooms in the late summer and fall on an erect, terminal, 3" [7.5 cm] long, few flowered inflorescence.
Epidendrum kockii has the same outline of the lip as the very similar E. nigricans which has much smaller flowers and an elongate inflorescence." Hagsater etal Adapted from Plate 343 1999
