Found in Germany, Czechloslavakia, Austria, Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Greece mixed woodlands and coniferous forests at elevations up to 1500 meters as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with a robust, dark green, sometimes washed with violet, pubescent stem carrying 4 to 8, dark green, spirally arranged, spreading-erect, narrow, arching, serrated margined cauline leaves, the lower 1 to 3, short, rounded, the median 2 to 3, lanceolate, the upper 1 to 2 bract-like leaves that blooms in the late spring and summer on a terminal, erect, elongated, to 7.2" [18 cm] long, 5 to 25 flowered inflorescence
