Found in Kirgystan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the western Himlayas, the Chinese Himalayas, Nepal and the eastern Himalayas in shady sites in grass at elevations of 2900 to 3000 meters as a medium to large sized, cold growing terrestrial with 6 to 9, plicate, ovate-lanceolate, acute to acumnate leaves that blooms in the later summer on a terminal, erect, provided with diminishing in size upwards, foliaceous sheaths, 6 to 7.2" [15 to 18 cm] long, successively several, many flowered inflorescence with longer than the flowers floral bracts.
