Found only in Switzerland as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestial that blooms in the summer
The largest distinction that I can see between this species and the very similar E fageticola occuring in Portugal, Spain, France and Switzerland is that there are plants only in Switzerland that have basically smooth stems, pedicels and backs of flowers as well as a more rounded apex to the lip and have been moved to E stellifera. Mony references cite this species as a synonym of E fageticola as they are quite close.
