Common Name Hernand's Epistephium [Colombian Orchidist and scientist 1900's]
Flower Size 4" [10 cm]
Found in Venezuela and Colombia in open rocky areas and in tepui meadows at elevations of 190 to 1700 meters as a medium to giant sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial on rocks, on riverbanks or grassy savannahs or epiphytic in wet, humid forests with an elongate, stout, glabrous stem carrying lightly fleshy, ovoid, acute leaves with clasping leaf bases and blooms in the spring and summer on a terminal, terete, glabrous, several to many [18] successively flowered, racemose inflorescence arising on a mature cane.
