Epidendrum silvanum is part of the GROUP Loefgrenii characterized by the sympodial, caespitose plants blooming on a terminal, subumbelliform inflorescence subtended by prominent, wide, truncate, spathaceous bracts and has an ovary with an inflated nectary that forms a vesicle.
