Found in Assam, eastern Himalayas, Myanmar, Hainan province of China, Thailand and Vietnam in evergreen broadleaved forests at elevations of 1000 to 1500 meters as a small sized, cool growing terrestrial with an erect green stem carrying 6 to 7, green, ovate, oblique, 3 veined abaxially, acute apically, obtuse below inot the petiolate, dilated base leaves with an amplexicaule sheath that blooms in the winter and early spring on an erect, peduncle 4.4 to 8" [11 to 20 cm] long, pubescent, provided with 2 to 5 sterile bracts, rachis .4 to 2.4" [1 to 6 cm] long, 4.8 to 10.4" [12 to 26 cm] long overall, densely few to several flowered inflorescence and lanceolate, pubescent, acuminate floral bracts.
