Found in New Caledonia, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu and Walis & Futna at elevations around 300 to 1300 meters as a small to medium sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with an erect leafy stem enveloped by leaf bearing sheaths carrying obliquely oblong-lanceolate to oblong-ovate, acuminate, narrowing below into the slender petiolate base leaves that blooms in the summer on a terminal, pubescent in the apical half, 4.8 to 10.8" [12 to 27 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, hairy floral bracts and carrying dull brownish white, pubescent flowers.
