Found in Eritrea and Ethiopia in moorland, montane pastures anmd shrubby hillsides at elevations of 2250 to 2600 meters as a largfe sized, cold growing terrestrial with irregularily shaped underground tubers giving rise to an erect stem carrying plicate, lanceolate leaves taht blooms in the spring and early summer on an erect, peduncle enveloped almost completely by paper-like tubular sheaths, to 30" [75 cm] long ovedrall, densely many flowered inflorescence with lanceoalte to linear floral bracts
