Found in Cameroon, Tanzania and Malawi in wet grasslands at elevations of 1000 to 1750 meters as a large to giant sized, cool growing terrestrial with subterranean, elliptic tubers giving rise to 3 to 4, plicate, erect, lanceolate to oblanceolate, acute leaves taht blooms in the later summer and earlier fall on an erect, arising before or with the leaves, peduncle with 4 to 5 papery bracts, rachis 4.8 to 15.2" [12 to 38 cm] long, 19.2 to 36" [48 to 90 cm] long overall, 9 to 20 flowered inflorescence with linear-lanceolate, spreading, acuminate floral bracts.
