Found in Burundi, Zaire, Tanzania, Angola, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Cape Province and Transvaal South Africa in mixed deciduous woodland, grassland and scrub at elevations of 1100 to 1900 meters as a small sized, cool growing terrestrial with a slender stem and a few basal, thick, stiff leaves, mostly leafless at flowering time and blooms in the spring on an erect, 6 to 16" [15 to 40 cm] long, laxly 10 to 30 flowered inflorescence.
