LATE
Common Name The Barrera's Eurystyles [Colombian Original Collectors of the type current]
Flower Size
Found in Cundinamarca department of Colombia and Districto Federal of Venezuela on damp mossy parts of trees at elevations of 1700 to 2100 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with fasciulate, fleshy roots giving rise to a basal rosette, of broadly ovate, long-acuminate, ciliolate along the margins, rather widely petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late spring on a slender, peduncle, arcuatley pendent, hispid, rachis .52" [1.3 cm] long, capitate, densely many flowered inflorescence with broadly ovate, apically lanceolate, margins lacerate-denticulate, spiculate, twice of more longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying small, membraneous flowers.
"The new species is similar to Eurystyles guentheriana and E christensonii but the new species has a pandurate lip without any additional constriction near the apex hence without an epichile. In the other 2 species the lip is oblong-pandurate and constricted near the middle and in the apical 1/5th or quarter. The epichile of E christensonii is densely spiculate all over, whereas the the epichile of E guentheriana is adorned with a tuft of fleshy hairs only in the center. Both E christonsonii and E guentheriana have the inner surface of the apical parts of the petals and dorsal sepal densely glandular, in contrary to the new species where they are glabrous. Additionally the petals of the old species are oblanceolate-subspathulate, whereas in E barrerorum they are ligulate-elliptic." Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2019
