Found in Cuba and the Dominican Republic at elevations around 1500 to 1800 meters in montane rainforests as a small sized, cool growing terrestrial with fleshy roots and a single, basal, ovate-cordiform, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the late spring and early summer on an erect, terminal, to 10" [25 cm] long, to 15 flowered inflorescence
