Common Name or Meaning The Spotted Gastrodia

Found in Lam Dong Vietnam in secondary and primary evergreen, montane, closed, broadleaf, shady forests with bamboo at elevations of 1800 to 2000 meters as a small sized, cool growing mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with no leaves and a cylindrical, slightly bent, densely hairy, fleshy, gray-brown tuber giving rise to an erect, soft, straight to slightly flexuous, deep brown to olive black, whitish towards the apex, 6 to 14" [15 to 35 cm] long, stem with 3 to 4, broad, ovate to narrowly ovate, obtuse bracts that blooms in the fall on a terminal, 1.6 to 3.2" [4 to 8 cm] long peduncle and a 4.8 to 10.8" [12 to 27 cm] long rachis carrying laxly 4 to 10, distant flowers with narrowly triangular, black with white marks, falcate, acute floral bracts.
