Common Name The Soma Gastrochilus

Flower Size 3/4" [1.85 cm]

Found in Taiwan as a miniature sized, cool to warm growing epiphyte with a Phalaenopsis-like growth habit, carrying iridescent dark green, 3" leaves on a short stem with white roots, that blooms in the fall on short, pendant 1" spikes that emerge from between the leaves bearing dense clusters of beautiful 3/4" blooms. The sepals and petals are white with bright yellow tips, the sack-shaped lip is white with a yellow tip and with red spotting in its pouch, the column is red, and the orchid is free flowering and carries fragrant flowers.

Said to be a synonym of G. japonicus, but I have left them separate for now.

Synonyms *Saccolabium somai Hayata 1914
