Found in northern Peru in wet montane forests at elevations of 700 to 900 meters as a large sized, warm growing epiphyte with ovoid-pyriform, slender, sulcate pseudobulbs carrying 2, narrowly lanceolate, attenuate, acuminate, plicate, bright green, channeled below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on a pendent, tinted purple, slender, racemose, 20" to 26" [50 to 65cm] long, densely 25 to 30 flowered inflorescence.

Said to be synomonous with G grossa but they are quite different so I leave them separtae pending better references.
