Common Name Balansa's Habenaria [Uruguayan Plant Collector in late 1800's early 1900's]
Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm]
Found in Maranhao', DF, Goias, Matto Grosso, Sao Paulo, Parana', Santa Catarina and Rio Grande Do Sul states of Brazil as well as Paraguay in damp grasslands as a small to medium sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with an erect stem enveloped by grading larger above, triangular, basally clasping, acute leaves that blooms in the later spring and summer on a terminal, erect, .8 to 2.4" [2 to 6 cm] long, 3 to 10 flowered inflorescence with strongly amplexicaul, short, pale green floral bracts
