Found in Minas Gerais state of Brazil in the Serra da Canastra at elevations around 1400 meters as a cool growing terrestrial that blooms in the late spring and early summer summer.
" H. pseudoculicina also from Minas Gerais and flowering in the same time, but H. canastrensis has a shorter pedicel and ovary .28 to .42" vs .48 to .6" (7 to 10.5 mm vs. 12 to 15 mm), segmento anterior das pétalas mais curto (3,5–5,3 mm vs. 5–7,5 mm compr.) e calcar mais curto (3,7–4,8 mm vs. 8–11,7 mm compr.).
