Common Name The Horned Habenaria [refers to the lower petal lobes]

Found in Ivory Coast, Guinea, Nigeria, Cameroon, Zaire, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Cape Province, Natal, Swaziland and Transvaal South Africa in open grasslands and brachystegia forests at elevations of 850 to 2400 meters as a small to large sized, warm to cold growing, glabrous terrestrial with ellipsoid, elongate-ovoid to nearly globose, densely tomotose tubers giving rise to an erect, slender to rather stout, leafy throughout stem carrying 9 to 15, the middlemost, recurved, linear-lanceolate, the lowermost smaller and bract-like, uppermost decreasing smaller leaves that blooms in the summer and early fall on an erect, 2 to 7.6" [5 to 19 cm] long, loosely to densely many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, shorter than the ovaries floral bracts and carrying suberect, fragrant flowers.
