Common Name Decary's Habenaria [French Orchid Enthusiast in Madagascar early 1900's]
Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm]
Found in central Madagascar in open woodlands and humid, open forests at elevations of 1000 to 1200 meters as a large to giant sized, cool growing terrestrial with an erect stem carrying 2 to 3 sheaths at the base, to 4, linear-acute, glabrous leaves that blooms in the spring on a terminal, erect, 20" to 24" [50 to 60 cm] long, unevenly lax, many flowered inflorescence with narrowly lanceolate, very acute, finely ciliate-papillose marginally, as long or just shorter than the ovary floral bracts carrying groups of 5 to 7 flowers that are unevenly spaced along the raceme.
